The state of further education in Wales is in good health according to Dr. Bill Maxwell, HMI Chief Inspector in his Annual Report of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales 2006-7. Among the good points are:
-
FE Colleges exceding Welsh Assembly Government targets;
-
14-16 year olds benefiting from partnership arrangements between schools and colleges;
-
Marked improvement in work-based learning.
However, improvements need to be made in partnership arrangements between schools and colleges catering for 16+ students, particularly those who need extra support to return to learning. “Although there are now more courses for 14-19 year olds, there are still not enough choices available.” said Dr. Maxwell.
