Diplomas could dominate in best schools, minister predicts

Speaking at the AoC conference Jim Knight, the education minister, said that the best schools and colleges will be most attracted to the new diplomas.
Noting the diplomas had already won the backing of top universities including Manchester, Leeds and Warwick, he said colleges would also be expected to play a leading role in assuring the success of the new diplomas, as well as helping the government achieve plans to keep young people in education or training until the age of 18.
The further education sector has proved itself able to engage youngsters beyond the age of 16 in a wide range of vocational education stretching beyond the traditionally academic, he said.
